Welcome to RG Porter, author of the Darkness Unleashed Series!
Can you tell us a little bit about your book?
My newest release is titled Cry of the Raven and it is the third installment in my Darkness Unleashed series. This book follows Kaylena on her journey to find her past. Her group is attacked by the same evil that has been spreading throughout their world. By chance they are saved by Galen’s group of warriors who are on the hunt for the creature that killed his brother. Their paths are intertwined by both fate and the past, as they find they must find the clues to unlock who Kaylena is, and in doing so, find another bit of information on how to defeat the darkness that was unleashed.
What about this story made you have to write it?
In the first book you meet Raithe who is a guardian of the tomb where this evil resides. He is a shapeshifter who takes on the form of a raven. Since he is only in the first scene, and the first two installments follow those who shift into wolf form, I wanted to explore the other group of shifters. This gave me the opportunity to do so.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned during the
creation of this book?
How fun it is to describe flying through the eyes of someone who is experiencing it. That and the heartfelt desire to learn of ones past, regardless of how upsetting it might be.
What was the hardest part to write?
The ending fight scene. There was so much emotion involved with this character, and her drive to find out about her past, that it was a complete rollercoaster ride towards the end.
What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I enjoy spending time with my family and playing online games with them. Nothing like a MMORPG to spur the imagination
Can you share a little of what you are working on now?
Currently I’m finishing the final installment of the Darkness Unleashed series (Call of the Raven) as well as another horror novel (Death from Below). I’m also putting finishing touches on a new dragon shifter that will be releasing in the next week or so titled Innok’s Curse.
What advice would you give a new writer?
Never stop reading, writing and learning. Check out and join as many writer forums as you can and reach out to other writers. You can never learn enough about the craft. It’s forever changing, but that is what makes it so much fun.
