Both sets of laws were aiming to maintain social stability, but the kind of social stability promoted by each set of laws was different. Wales wasn't really a 'feudal' system (in the sense that the Normans brought feudalism to England). The Norman laws were designed to maintain the supremacy of the rulers--not that the Welsh rulers weren't concerned about that--but there were mutual obligations among the Welsh that were absent in Norman law. One aspect of Welsh culture that informed Welsh law was that family/genealogy were VERY important to the Welsh. To the Normans, not so much. So the social order that Welsh law aimed to maintain involved family ties and smoothing out disputes among neighbors. This was totally different from what the Normans were trying to do, which was maintain control over a conquered population (the Saxons, and after 1282, the Welsh).

Hi Sarah I just had to leave a comment I have just finished reading your After Cilmeri series all 5 books in 2 days and I could not put them down, wow they are amazing and I can't wait to read your other books, my nanny was from Wales and all of her family although she moved to northern ireland when she married my granda, growing up she would tell me all about wales the mountains and the valleys and the history so it has a very special place in my heart and I have visited too, sadly my nanny died almost 2 years ago and we gave her a welsh funeral as she would have wanted, reading your books has taught me so much more and I feel my bond is even stronger now so thank you for giving me something very special I am so incredably proud of my welsh heritage, Claire

Thank you so much for commenting! You made my day. Yes, there will be more After Cilmeri books … not until 2013 because all this takes time, but yes.

I love time travel stories and was so excited to find your series. I have fallen in love with the people you have written of. I just finished Crossroads in Time. Are there going to be more in the Cilmeri series? I am going on to your other books but I know I will keep wondering what happens when they reach England & will William fall in love with his "bride"? I have enjoyed you're writing. Thanks for sharing your imagination with us readers.
